Colin Bootman - Awards

	*Grandmama's Pride*
	The Ashley Bryan Medal Mr. Bootman was presented this award at the Children's Literature Conference in November 2006. The Ashley Bryan Medal is for the most notable contribution of a body of works to African American Literature for children. This award represents recognition of individually distinct works, with exceptional literary and visual quality, as well as respect for children's understandings, abilities, and appreciation.

	The SCWBI Golden Kite Honor Book Award which recognizes excellence in children's literature.

	*Dad, Jackie and Me*
	The Land of Enchantment Book Award Nominee for 2006-2007 and 2007-2008. The California Young Reader Medal Nominee, selected as as one of three titles in the Picture Books for Older Readers Category for 2007-2008.
	The Comstock Book Award 2006 This is awarded to an author or illustrator of the best picture book to read aloud to children ages 8-12.
	The Storytelling World Award 2006 - Stories for Pre-Adolescents Listeners

	The ALA Scheider Family Book Award was presented to Mr. Bootman in 2006 by the American Library Association. This is a National Award which honors an author/illustrator for a book that embodies an artistic expression of the disability experience for child and adolescent audiences.

	The NCSS/CBC Notable Social Studies Trade Books for Children

	Nominated as one of six titles that USBBY is recommending as for the Outstanding Books for Young People with Disabilities Exhibition in Bologna 2006, by the IBBY Documentation Centre of Books for Disabled Young People in Sandvika, Norway. This title will be kept in the permanent collection of the centre in Norway.

	In 2005 the Gustavus Myers Center for the Study of Bigotry and Human Rights made honorable mention of Dad, Jackie, and Me through the Gustavus Myers Outstanding Book Award.

	*Almost to Freedom*
	Coretta Scott King Illustrator Honor Book Award 2004 given to an African American illustrator for an outstandingly inspirational and educational contribution, that promotes understanding and appreciation of the culture of all people and their contribution to the realization of the American Dream. This award commemorates the life and works of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and honors Mrs. Coretta Scott King.
	From January to February 2005 "Almost to Freedom" was featured on a CBS Showcase-Celebrating Black History Month. Society of School Librarians International (SSLI) Honor Book 2005 The California Young Reader Medal Nominee 2005-2006 The Best Book of the Year by the Children's Book Committee at Bank Street College A Children's Book of the Year 2004 by the Child Study Children's Book Committee at Bank Street College.
